Job description

Purpose:

UPMC Hillman Cancer Center is internationally recognized for its leadership in cancer prevention, detection, diagnosis, and treatment. It is the region's only comprehensive cancer center designated by the National Cancer Institute. As a leading institution in western Pennsylvania, it excels in delivering cancer care, conducting basic, translational, and clinical research, and educating future cancer researchers and physicians. UPMC Hillman Cancer Center is well-positioned to contribute to the global effort to reduce the burden of cancer.

We are currently hiring a Professional Staff Nurse, ONC (RN) to support the UPMC Mercy Medical Oncology network team/office in Pittsburgh, PA. This position offers a $6,000 sign-on bonus and involves a regular full-time daytime schedule, Monday through Friday. The role is as a Treatment/Infusion Nurse working with the Mercy medical oncology team, caring for a large practice of oncology patients. The incumbent will also assist with triage responsibilities as needed.

The Professional Staff Nurse is a Registered Nurse responsible for setting standards for quality care, managing, and providing nursing care activities for a group of patients and their families through independent judgment, communication, and collaboration with team members. The role encompasses leadership, partnership, collaboration, and supervision.

The nurse establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with physicians, healthcare providers, patients, and families to achieve optimal patient outcomes throughout the care continuum. The role demonstrates a commitment to the community and the nursing profession.

Responsibilities:

  1. Participate actively in quality improvement efforts within the department or unit. Identify opportunities for improvement and take responsibility for enhancing patient satisfaction and clinical care based on research and evidence-based practices.
  2. Maintain accountability for professional development to improve practice quality and patient care. Engage in shared governance, goal setting, and support change initiatives to enhance the practice environment.
  3. Develop and sustain productive relationships internally and externally by demonstrating accountability, enthusiasm, and cultural sensitivity. Communicate safety hazards and maintain a healthy work-life balance.
  4. Apply adult learning principles in teaching patients, families, students, and new staff. Provide detailed education to support patient care and transition, and serve as a preceptor when appropriate.
  5. Utilize the nursing process within Relationship Based Care to create a healing environment. Develop daily care goals, consider holistic patient needs, demonstrate critical thinking, and communicate effectively to promote safety, quality, and patient satisfaction.
