Job summary

Howrecruit is seeking a Product Engineering Manager to lead the small team that owns both customer and vendor experiences in a profitable, bootstrapped startup. You will shape the product and technical direction across React, React Native, GraphQL, and Python with autonomy and ownership.

This is a genuine 60/40 role: design and ship features while growing a 4-5 engineer team, reporting to the VP of Engineering, and ensuring high-quality user experiences for both sides of the marketplace.

Qualifications

• Experience shipping production applications in React and TypeScript.
• Direct management experience with 2+ engineers while still personally shipping meaningful product work.
• Experience building for more than one user type in a two-sided marketplace is ideal.
• Based in the US in a market the company operates in; you can be a real user of the product.
• Hands-on engineering leader who chose management as a craft and stayed close to product.

Responsibilities

• Design and ship features across both sides of the marketplace with quality parity.
• Mentor and grow the team of 4-5 product engineers and provide development plans.
• Partner with product and design to influence user experience beyond a spec.
• Own end-to-end data workflows, releases, and backward compatibility.
• Establish lightweight processes for planning and delivery to minimize overhead.
