Job summary

Chapter One is seeking an Engineering Team Lead to guide the core platform, combining a Rails backend with React/TypeScript client apps. You will also lead the engineering pod, setting priorities, mentoring, and handling performance reviews from day one.

The role blends deep technical leadership with hands-on management, reporting to the CPTO. Remote US-based, salary range 170k-190k USD, with an emphasis on secure, scalable architecture.

Qualifications

• Experience leading small engineering teams.
• Strong back-end and front-end architecture skills.
• Experience with Rails and React/TypeScript.
• Able to manage performance reviews and mentoring.
• Knowledge of data privacy (PII) and security.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for Rails backend and React/TypeScript client applications.
• Lead engineering pod, set cadence, priorities, and unblock work.
• Conduct performance reviews from day one.
• Collaborate with QA and Release Management to ship features.
• Maintain daily governance via Asana, GitHub parity, and Slack.
