Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking a PRN phlebotomy technician to cover various shifts, including nights and weekends, in the Atrium Health Cleveland - Lab department. The part-time position is 4 hours per week, with responsibilities spanning phlebotomy, specimen processing, and patient registration.

Responsibilities include maintaining documentation, training new staff, handling specimens, and ensuring safety, sterile technique, and proper PPE usage in a fast-paced clinical setting.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of laboratory techniques to perform minor tests.
• Knowledge of lab equipment and testing to operate, clean and sterilize.
• Knowledge of medical terminology to communicate with staff.
• Knowledge of computer systems and applications.
• Knowledge of safety and universal precautions to maintain a safe environment.

Responsibilities

• Collects and processes patient blood via venipuncture/capillary puncture.
• Processes nonblood specimens promptly and accurately.
• Assists in specimen prep, receipt, and transport.
• Performs patient registration and supports patient care areas by phone.
• Maintains lab documentation and follows SOPs and labeling standards.
• Trains new staff and students in department procedures.
• Receives lab orders and performs routine tests per age-specific guidelines.
• Ensures PPE use and infection control practices.
