Job summary

Advocate Health is hiring for a full-time Lab Phlebotomy role at the Atrium Health Cleveland – Lab. The position requires collecting and processing patient blood, handling specimens, registering patients, and supporting clinical staff in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities include maintaining lab systems, training new staff, and ensuring compliance with safety and infection control policies.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Phlebotomy certification preferred in facilities where phlebotomy is assigned duty.

Responsibilities

• Collects and/or processes patient blood via venipuncture and/or capillary puncture.
• Processes nonblood patient specimens in a timely and accurate fashion.
• Assists in specimen preparation, receipt, and transport of patient specimens.
• Performs patient registration.
• Provides phone support for patient care areas.
• Maintains competency with hospital and laboratory information systems.
• Trains new team members and/or students in the department.
• Receives lab orders from providers, prepares necessary documentation, and performs all routine laboratory tests.
• Maintains documentation for all tests and labels specimens according to standards.
• Maintains equipment, stocks supplies, and keeps workspace organized.
• Practices sterile technique and prevents cross contamination; handles blood and body fluids and infectious patients.
• Performs phlebotomy under established procedures with age-specific considerations.
• Receives and collects urine specimens for routine tests.
• Performs specimen preparation for all procedures/tests.
• Maintains supplies inventory and communicates needs to supervisor.
• Reports test results and abnormal findings to clinical staff.
• Follows safety procedures and OSHA regulations and uses PPE.
