Job summary

Elastic is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to drive technical direction in the Billing Experience domain. This hands‑on role designs APIs, shapes user‑facing systems, and scales billing services while collaborating with Product, Design, SRE, and Cloud Infrastructure teams.

You will own complex billing systems, lead API evolution, and build full‑stack features in Elastic Cloud consoles. Strong backend and cloud experience, plus mentoring, are essential.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in backend or full‑stack engineering.
• Experience building and maintaining developer‑facing or customer‑facing APIs at scale.
• Cloud infrastructure experience (AWS, GCP, or Azure) including networking and deployment.
• Strong written and verbal communication across teams and with non‑technical partners.
• Experience with SaaS billing, metering, or financial systems is a plus.
• Ability to lead multi‑quarter projects and mentor engineers.

Responsibilities

• Own complex billing and account management systems, including APIs and Cloud console experiences.
• Lead API design and evolution with contract stability and versioning standards.
• Build and improve full‑stack features in Cloud consoles from backend to frontend UI.
• Improve observability, incident response, and reliability of billing services.
• Shape architecture for scale and modularity; guide service design and data modeling.
• Collaborate with SRE and Cloud teams on deployment, monitoring, CI/CD.
• Mentor engineers and tech leads to raise engineering standards.
• Align roadmap priorities with Product, Design, and Finance.
