Job summary

Elastic is hiring a Principal Software Engineer to drive the Billing Experience domain. You will design public and internal APIs, shape user‑facing billing UIs, and scale services across AWS, GCP, and Azure in a global environment.

You will mentor engineers, set architectural direction, and collaborate with Product, Design, SRE, and Cloud Infrastructure teams to improve deployment, observability, and reliability. This role is distributed with focus on scalable, production‑ready systems.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in backend or full‑stack engineering with API design experience.
• Experience building developer‑facing or customer‑facing APIs at scale.
• Strong cloud infrastructure knowledge across AWS, GCP or Azure.
• Frontend familiarity with React or similar is a plus.
• Proven ability to lead multi‑quarter projects and mentor engineers.

Responsibilities

• Own complex billing and account management systems including APIs and UI.
• Lead API design and evolution with contract stability and versioning standards.
• Build full‑stack features in Elastic Cloud consoles from backend to UI.
• Improve observability, incident response, and reliability of billing services.
• Shape system architecture for scale and modularity across teams.
• Collaborate with SRE and Cloud teams on deployment and CI/CD pipelines.
• Be the go‑to reviewer for the billing experience stack and uphold quality.
• Mentor engineers and raise engineering standards across the org.
• Work with Product/Design/Finance on roadmap prioritization.
• Participate in on‑call rotations and ensure production readiness.
