Job summary

Valar Atomics is hiring a Principal Software Engineer to own the architecture for telemetry, streaming, and enterprise systems. You will work with reactor and manufacturing engineers to build scalable tooling and set the technical direction for the platform.

The role requires deep experience with time-series data, high-volume streaming, and full-stack services, and will involve collaboration across multiple teams in a regulated environment.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering, with ownership of a platform or major system.
• Experience designing high-volume telemetry or time-series systems.
• Proven ability in streaming architectures (Kafka, Pulsar, Kinesis, Flink).
• Experience with simulation, modeling, or scientific computing platforms.
• Full-stack software development integrating with enterprise systems.
• Proficiency in Java, Go, Rust, or similar plus Python/JavaScript.
• Cloud, containers, IaC, and CI/CD experience.
• Strong CS fundamentals and data modeling.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end architecture of Valar's software platform across telemetry, streaming, simulation, and enterprise systems.
• Design high-volume telemetry ingestion for reactor data at scale with proper timestamps and ordering.
• Architect the streaming backbone for analytics, monitoring, and enterprise use.
• Support the simulation and modeling platform with reproducible results.
• Build full-stack services and interfaces across REST, GraphQL, and events.
• Design data models and boundaries for auditable, reusable records.
• Establish engineering practices: deployment, observability, testing, and on-call.
• Mentor engineers and set technical direction for the growing team.
