Job summary

Valar Atomics in Torrance, CA seeks a Principal Software Engineer to own the architecture of the operating system for Valar—the telemetry, streaming, and enterprise systems that power our reactor and fuel platforms. You will set direction, handle hard problems, and collaborate with engineers, licensing, manufacturing, and operations across sites.

The role requires shipping production software with AI coding agents, setting quality standards in a regulated environment, and mentoring a growing

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software development experience, owning a platform.
• Proven work with telemetry/time-series and high-volume data.
• Experience with event-driven architectures and streaming.
• Cloud, IaC, and CI/CD expertise.
• Leadership and cross-team collaboration demonstrated.

Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end architecture of Valar's software platform across telemetry, streaming, simulation, and enterprise systems.
• Design high-volume telemetry ingestion for reactor tests and manufacturing.
• Architect the streaming backbone for analytics, simulation, and enterprise use.
• Support the simulation and modeling platform with reproducible results.
• Build full-stack services and interfaces integrated with PLM/ERP/MES over REST, GraphQL, and events.
• Define data models, interfaces, and access boundaries for auditability.
• Establish engineering practices: deployment, observability, testing, and on-call.
• Lead design reviews and mentor engineers as the team scales.
