Job summary

Valar Atomics is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to own the core software architecture for our nuclear-energy platform. You will direct telemetry, streaming, simulation, and enterprise systems, collaborating with engineering, manufacturing, licensing, and operations to build faster tooling.

You will lead design and code reviews, mentor engineers, and shape engineering practices in a regulated, high-stakes environment.

Qualifications

• 10+ years writing software and owning a platform or major system.
• Experience with high-volume telemetry/time-series systems.
• Experience with streaming/event-driven architectures and throughput considerations.
• Experience building enterprise and engineering software with web interfaces.
• Proven ability to drive architecture decisions across teams and stakeholders.
• Experience with cloud deployment and CI/CD.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end architecture of Valar’s software platform across telemetry, streaming, simulation, and enterprise systems.
• Design high-volume telemetry ingestion for reactor/test data at scale with accurate timestamps and units.
• Architect the streaming backbone for analytics, simulation, monitoring, and enterprise consumers.
• Support and integrate simulation/modeling platforms with reproducible results and scheduling.
• Build full-stack services and web interfaces integrated with PLM, ERP, MES via REST/GraphQL.
• Define data models and access boundaries for auditable engineering records.
• Establish deployment, observability, testing, and on-call practices for a regulated environment.
• Leverage AI coding agents while ensuring output is verified before landfall.
