Job summary

Valar Atomics is seeking a Principal Software Engineer in Torrance, CA to own the architecture for telemetry systems, streaming, simulation, and enterprise tooling. You will collaborate with reactor and manufacturing teams to build fast, scalable software that supports regulatory requirements and rapid deployment.

You will lead design reviews, mentor engineers, and set standards for software quality, deployment, and observability while driving cross-functional initiatives across engineering,

Qualifications

• 10+ years writing software and owning a major system.
• Experience operating high-volume telemetry/time-series systems.
• Experience with streaming architectures and ordering/replay concerns.
• Experience building simulation or scientific computing platforms.
• Experience building enterprise software and web interfaces.
• Proven track record directing architecture decisions.
• Cloud and containerized deployment with CI/CD.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end architecture of Valar's software platform across telemetry, streaming, simulation, and enterprise systems.
• Design high-volume telemetry ingestion for reactor test stands and manufacturing.
• Architect streaming backbone for analytics, simulation, monitoring, and enterprise consumers.
• Support the simulation and modeling platform with scheduling and reproducible results.
• Architect and build full-stack services and interfaces across REST, GraphQL, and events.
• Define data models and access boundaries for cross-team usability and traceability.
• Establish engineering practices including deployment, observability, testing, and on-call in a regulated environment.
• Leverage AI coding agents as a core part of the development workflow and verify outputs.
