Job summary

Collins Aerospace in Richardson, TX is seeking a highly motivated Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead electric motor design for aerospace applications. You will architect, develop, and validate motors, coordinating with Electrical, Systems, and Test Engineering across the product lifecycle.

The role requires a strong background in rotor/stator mechanics, cooling, and integration with airframes. DoD security clearance and U.S. citizenship are required for access to sensitive programs.

Qualifications

• Degree in STEM with 8+ years of relevant experience or an advanced degree with 5+ years.
• Ability to obtain and maintain U.S. government security clearance; U.S. citizenship required.
• Experience in rotating machinery design including rotor/stator and bearings.
• Experience with motor thermal management and cooling methods.
• Experience with manufacturing processes for motor components and integration.

Responsibilities

• Lead the conceptual and detailed design of electric motors, including rotor/stator architecture and cooling.
• Own the technical requirements and design strategy for development programs.
• Communicate technical topics clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Contribute to design/selection of motors, pumps, bearings, and rotating equipment.
• Perform analysis to ensure functional requirements are met.
• Lead prototype build, integration, and testing to validate compliance.
• Provide feedback during peer reviews and document knowledge.
• Mentor team members and share technical guidance across IPT.
• Collaborate with IPT to manage scope, budget, risks, and opportunities.
