Collins Aerospace, Richardson, TX, seeks a Principal Mechanical Engineer responsible for designing, validating, and integrating gearbox systems for aerospace applications. You will lead gear trains, lubrication, and supporting structures while collaborating with Electrical, Systems, and Test Engineering.

You will mentor team members, perform analyses, conduct prototypes, and ensure compliance with customer requirements. A U.S. government clearance and citizenship are required.

Qualifications

• Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience.
• The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
• Previous experience in applying gear theory including spur helical, bevel, hypoid and planetary gearsets, gear geometry, contact ratio, tooth-root stress, pitting resistance, etc.

Responsibilities

• Lead conceptual and detailed design of gearbox systems, including gear trains, bearings, housings, lubrication systems, and supporting structure.
• Communicate technical topics and issues clearly to both technical peers and non-technical team members.
• Contributes to the design and/or selection of mechanical and electro‑mechanical hardware such as motors, hydraulic pumps, bearings, and large rotating equipment.
• Perform analysis on selected components to ensure functional requirements of equipment are met.
• Conduct prototype build, integration, and testing activities to validate component and system level compliance with customer requirements.
• Mentor and document knowledge to provide technical domain guidance to both members of own team and beyond.
