Job summary

Vantage Data Centers seeks a Principal Engineer, Mechanical Engineering to lead mechanical design direction across North American hyperscale data center projects. You will mentor engineers, influence design standards, and represent mechanical engineering in strategic forums and customer engagements.

The role requires 5-8 years of experience in mechanical design/construction/ops, expertise in AutoCAD, Revit, BIM, CFD, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
• 5-8 years of mechanical design, construction, and operations experience, data center or mission-critical.
• Proven track record leading complex technical initiatives and cross-functional teams.
• Expertise in AutoCAD, Revit, BIM, CFD modeling and Excel/Power BI reporting.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
• Up to 15-25% travel; travel requirements may evolve.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive mechanical engineering strategy across North American data center projects.
• Lead complex technical problem-solving and provide guidance on design, construction, and operations.
• Influence engineering standards and long-term planning across the organization.
• Provide technical leadership on major projects and initiatives aligned with business goals.
• Review and approve design decisions, submittals, and change actions; support commissioning and turnover.
• Partner with electrical, architectural, operations and innovation teams for integrated solutions.
• Represent mechanical engineering in CoE, executive discussions, and customer engagements.
• Mentor engineers, contribute to onboarding and professional growth, promote continuous improvement.
• Stay ahead of industry trends, refine mechanical design standards and best practices.
• Conduct root-cause investigations for operational issues and failures as needed.
