Job summary

AbbVie seeks a Senior Engineer to lead building and facility engineering at our New Jersey site, managing drawings, equipment and safety programs with little supervision. You will coordinate with vendors and internal teams to ensure design intent, regulatory compliance, and efficient operation.

The role requires overseeing maintenance, space planning, and modifications while mentoring the IFM engineering team and driving continuous improvement across HVAC, utilities, and safety systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, science, or closely related discipline is desired, or equivalent technical experience with 4+ years of significant engineering/operational experience.
• Possesses strong technical knowledge and can handle complex problems with multiple factors.
• Demonstrates judgment within defined procedures to determine action.
• Interacts well with diverse groups and maintains relationships with collaborators.
• Communicates effectively verbally and in writing in a team environment.
• Works well in a fast-paced, goal-driven setting.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and own the building drawings database including drawings, manuals, specs, and operation sequences.
• Oversee design work of internal and external consultants; balance costs with benefits.
• Represent engineering on corporate task forces and propose customer-focused solutions.
• Coordinate with outside vendors on plans, budgets, schedules, and construction inspections.
• Manage office/lab spaces and equipment, including HVAC, boilers, chillers, and safety systems.
• Provide off-hours support for emergencies and ensure safety programs and procedures are implemented.
• Lead injury/illness investigations, root-cause analysis, and compliance inspections.
• Establish budgets and track expenditures; develop facility metrics for continuous improvement.
• Oversee year-end shutdowns and major projects; guide KPI tracking and reporting.
• Mentor the IFM engineering team and develop maintenance procedures and KPI tracking.
