Job summary

Mercy Health in Ohio is seeking a Surgical Technologist to assist the surgical team by preparing sterile instruments, supplies and equipment, maintaining the sterile field, and anticipating the needs of the team during operative procedures. You will assemble supplies, perform surgical counts with the circulating nurse, ensure aseptic technique, assist with specimen labeling, and help with pre- and post-procedure room cleaning.

Certification and BLS are required.

Qualifications

• Must be certified by CST, NBSTSA or TS-C (TS-C not accepted for Cincinnati).
• NBSTSA/NCCT accepted if certified prior to 2008 where applicable.
• BLS, American Heart Association required at hire or prior to independent patient care.

Responsibilities

• Functions as the scrub person and assists during operative procedures by assembling supplies and equipment.
• Prepares and organizes sterile supplies and instruments and performs surgical counts with the circulating RN.
• Maintains an organized sterile field and assists with drapes and aseptic technique.
• Retrieves and labels specimens appropriately and reports implanted devices to the circulator.
• Provides case preparation and adapts to specialty instruments and equipment needs.
• Assists with pre/post-procedure cleaning of the operative area and routine safety measures.
