RESA Power in Huntsville, AL is seeking a Field Tech Apprentice for Electrical Testing. This entry-level role provides hands-on training in power transmission and distribution, with oversight from senior technicians.

You will inspect, test, maintain HV/LV equipment, learn safety procedures, and grow toward independent field work. High school diploma required; no prior field experience needed; willingness to learn is essential.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• No prior field experience required; technical school preferred.
• Familiarity with industry standards such as NETA, NEC, OSHA, and NFPA is preferred but not required.
• Basic understanding of electricity and a strong willingness to learn.
• Ability to work safely and adhere to electrical safety procedures.
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, for working with customers and team members.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Good problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
• Ability to follow instructions and work under the guidance of experienced technicians.
• Strong computer skills, Microsoft Office, and internet research.

Responsibilities

• Inspecting, testing, troubleshooting, and collecting data on low, medium, and high voltage electrical systems (up to 500kV).
• Performing testing and maintenance on low, medium, and high voltage switchgear and circuit breakers.
• Performing inspection, maintenance, testing, and repair of transformers (45 KVA to 130 MVA) and related equipment.
• Maintenance, testing, reconditioning, and repair of circuit breakers (low to medium voltage).
• Working with SF6-filled equipment and gas-insulated switchgear.
• Testing and inspecting low and medium voltage cable installations.
• Operating high voltage test equipment, including Doble Power Factor test sets.
• Start-up, troubleshooting, and repair services on controls and transfer schemes.
• Participating in on-call rotations and responding to emergencies.
• Ensuring all work complies with safety regulations.
