Job summary

NRG Energy is seeking a Plant Operator to ensure safe, efficient generation of electricity and steam, performing field/auxiliary duties and control-room operations. You will monitor equipment, start/stop and load control, and respond to alarms to protect plant performance.

In this role you will follow safety procedures, complete LOTO procedures, interpret instrument readings, run routine tests, and document conditions.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• 0–3 years’ Plant Operator experience in a power plant.
• Must complete Control Room Operator qualification card (CRO).
• Structured progression from Plant Operator to CRO within a defined timeframe.

Responsibilities

• Operate, inspect, and monitor power plant equipment to maintain safe, efficient plant performance.
• Execute plant startup, shutdown, and load control; perform emergency operations to maintain electric service.
• Observe variations in operating conditions; interpret instrument readings to troubleshoot equipment.
• Generate/review work requests for equipment repair and assist maintenance personnel.
• Recognize hazards; follow safety guidelines; implement plant emergency procedures.
• Understand and execute LOTO procedures and operate switches/valves.
• Communicate plant conditions clearly to supervision and team members; suggest improvements.
• Take samples and perform routine laboratory tests for plant processes.
• Operate computer systems to receive, analyze, and input operational data.
