Job summary

NRG Energy is seeking a Plant Operator to ensure safe, reliable electricity and steam generation through field duties and control-room operations. You will monitor equipment, perform startups/shutdowns, and manage load control in a challenging power-plant setting.

The role requires 0–3 years of relevant experience, a high school diploma or GED, and a drive to complete the Control Room Operator qualification card as part of a structured progression path within the company.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; valid state drivers license.
• 0–3 years plant operator experience in a power plant environment.
• Ability to complete the Control Room Operator qualification card and progression milestones.
• Degree or certificate from a technical/vocational program is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Operate, inspect, and monitor power plant equipment to maintain safe, efficient performance.
• Execute plant startup/shutdown and load control; respond to emergencies to protect equipment.
• Observe readings, troubleshoot equipment, and document operational issues.
• Support maintenance with work requests and safe tool use as needed.
• Follow LOTO procedures and clearly communicate plant conditions to the team.
