Job summary

NRG Energy is seeking a Plant Operator to ensure safe, efficient generation of electricity and steam. You will perform field and control-room duties, monitor HMIs, and execute startup/shutdown while maintaining logs and documentation.

The role emphasizes safety and regulatory compliance, with training progression to Control Room Operator and DOT background checks as part of the onboarding process.

Qualifications

• Complete CRO qualification card; required for progression to Control Room Operator.
• Structured progression pathway; training, qualification cards, and milestones for progression.
• Pre-employment DOT drug screen and background check; participation in the NRG DOT Program.

Responsibilities

• Operate, inspect, and monitor power plant equipment to maintain safe, efficient and reliable performance.
• Control room duties: regulate turbines, generators, HRSGs via HMIs; maintain steam conditions and fuel supply.
• Execute startup/shutdown and load control; respond to alarms and emergencies to protect operations.
• Maintain CRO/shift logs and coordinate with dispatcher in real time; support maintenance with safe tool use.
• Perform routine lab tests and record data; monitor plant processes and instrumentation.
