Job summary

NRG Energy seeks a Plant Operator to oversee safe operation of plant equipment, including steam generators and turbines, across rotating shifts. The role requires adherence to safety standards and effective communication with maintenance and operations teams.

You will monitor, log, and analyze plant data, troubleshoot issues, and assist in preventive and corrective maintenance. Training toward becoming a Control Operator is encouraged.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated knowledge of electrical or mechanical fundamentals (single craft journeyman skills).
• Basic knowledge of operational characteristics of equipment and associated control devices installed in power facilities.

Responsibilities

• Oversees safe, efficient operation of plant equipment.
• Operates steam generator, solar field, steam turbines, and auxiliaries in routine and emergency conditions.
• Follows LOTO procedures.
• Monitors and records data via instruments, charts and monitoring systems.
• Maintains shift logbooks and communicates via radio, phone, and face-to-face.
• Troubleshoots problems and refers complex issues to maintenance.
• Generates and reviews work requests for equipment repair.
• Assists in corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance with tools and vehicles.
• Participates in regulatory training and self-directed learning to advance to Control Operator.
• Assists in training other Operators.
• Performs duties to operate and maintain a power facility.
• Works independently or in crews; rotates shifts including nights and weekends.
