Job summary

NRG Energy is seeking a dedicated Control Room Operator to ensure safe, efficient generation of electricity and steam. The role involves field and control-room duties, monitoring HMIs, startup/shutdown, and load control to maintain reliable plant performance.

You will observe conditions, troubleshoot issues, document operations, and perform routine laboratory tests as part of process monitoring. A structured progression pathway is provided with training and qualification milestones.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Plant Operator in an operating/generating plant.
• Ability to complete the Control Room Operator qualification card.
• High school diploma or GED; technical/vocational training preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operate, inspect, and monitor power plant equipment to maintain safe, efficient plant performance.
• In the control room, regulate turbines, generators, and auxiliary equipment; manage steam conditions and fuel supply.
• Execute plant startup/shutdown and load control; respond to dispatcher orders in real time.
• Observe operating variations and troubleshoot equipment using instrument readings.
• Maintain CRO/shift logs and generate work requests for repairs and maintenance.
