Job summary

NRG Energy is seeking a Plant Operator to ensure safe, efficient power generation and steam production. You will monitor plant equipment, operate control room HMIs, and execute start‑ups and shutdowns while maintaining logs and adhering to safety procedures.

The role requires 0–3 years' plant experience, a high school diploma or GED, and completion of required operator qualification cards with DOT background checks. Training and progression opportunities are provided.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must complete Water Plant Operator qualification card (WPO) for progression.
• Must complete Control Room Operator qualification card (CRO) for progression.
• DOT drug screen and background check required; position in DOT program.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor power plant equipment to maintain safe, efficient, and reliable plant performance.
• In the control room, operate HMIs/panels to regulate turbines, generators, HRSGs, and auxiliary equipment; maintain proper steam conditions.
• Execute startup, shutdown, and load control; respond to dispatch orders and emergencies to safeguard equipment and service.
• Maintain CRO/shift logs and coordinate with maintenance for repairs and testing.
• Follow safety guidelines, LO/TO procedures, PPE use and reporting of hazards.
• Take samples, perform routine lab tests, and record data for process control.
