Job summary

NRG Energy is seeking a Control Room Operator to ensure safe, efficient generation of electricity and steam by performing field duties and control-room operations. You will operate HMIs, startup/shutdown, load control, and monitor plant performance.

The role requires 3+ years of plant operator experience and completion of the CRO qualification card. Position involves irregular shifts, strict safety procedures, and the potential for career progression through a structured training program.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• CRO placement requires minimum 3 years’ plant operator experience.
• Must complete the Control Room Operator qualification card.
• Structured progression pathway with training and competency milestones.
• Preferred: technical/vocational certificate or degree.

Responsibilities

• Operate, inspect, and monitor power plant equipment to maintain safe, efficient performance.
• In the control room, regulate turbines, generators, and HRSGs; ensure proper steam and fuel supply.
• Execute plant startup/shutdown and load control; perform emergency operations when needed.
• Maintain CRO/shift logs and respond to dispatcher orders in real time.
