Qualifications

• Valid phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.
• 6+ months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School Diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

• Experience doing blood draws, labeling specimens, centrifuging specimens, recording maintenance data and decontamination, updating patient information, etc.
• Collects and stores specimens according to established procedures. Explains the venipuncture process clearly and courteously.
• Demonstrate technique with straight needles and butterfly needles.
• Match physician orders to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
• Check test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport and store samples according to protocol.
• Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Attend annual department trainings.
• Answer calls and read laboratory results to assist inquiries.
