Job summary

McLaren Health Care in Michigan seeks a Laboratory Assistant (Phlebotomy) to perform specimen collection and related duties in-house or at off-site locations, under supervision. The role includes data entry, specimen processing, and adherence to safety and quality standards.

Preferred candidates will have phlebotomy training or certification, prior blood-drawing experience, and a background in a clinical laboratory setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Preferred phlebotomy certification or training.
• Experience drawing blood and handling specimens preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs proper specimen collection (blood and non-blood) including patient prep, labeling, handling, preservation, processing, transportation and storage.
• Enters patient data and test orders into hospital information system/laboratory information system; ensures ABN compliance.
• Processes specimens according to established guidelines.
• Maintains a safe, clean work environment and adheres to infection control and safety policies.
• Performs waived tests and assists in other testing platforms under supervision.
• Assists in quality control and performance improvement activities.
• Orients and/or trains new staff; ensures regulatory compliance.
