Job summary

McLaren Laboratory is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to perform phlebotomy and specimen collection for in-house and off-site locations, with additional duties in processing and data entry within a clinical laboratory setting.

The role requires a high school diploma (certification preferred) and prior phlebotomy or lab experience. The position emphasizes adherence to safety, QA, and regulatory requirements in a dynamic healthcare environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Certified phlebotomy technician preferred.
• Experience drawing blood or phlebotomy training in approved program preferred.
• Previous experience in a clinical laboratory environment preferred.

Responsibilities

• Performs specimen collection (blood and non-blood) with proper patient prep, labeling, handling, storage, and transport while complying with lab procedures.
• Verifies and enters patient data and test orders into hospital/LIS systems, ensuring ABN compliance.
• Performs waived tests and supports other testing platforms with supervision.
• Maintains infection control, safety, and quality standards; assists in QA and process improvements.
• Trains and orients new staff and assists with regulatory compliance and documentation.
• Handles calls, prints reports, and communicates test results as applicable.
• Manages dispatch of specimens/slides and creates transport lists for referrals and consults.
