Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is hiring Lab Support Tech I to greet patients, guide them, and perform phlebotomy and clerical tasks. The role includes specimen collection, registration, and computer order entry within a hospital setting.

Responsibilities cover specimen handling, processing, ER support, and ensuring PPE compliance while maintaining organized work areas. Requires a high school diploma and a valid driver’s license; ASCP eligibility preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Valid driver’s license is required.
• ASCP certification or eligibility is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collect blood samples with venipuncture across age groups.
• Receive, label, and prioritize specimens in the computer system.
• Maintain clean and stocked drawing stations and work area.
• Register courier-delivered specimens and troubleshoot printers.
• Order tests accurately using test dictionaries and panels.
• Provide telephone support and ensure coverage for calls.
• Perform capillary collection and PKU sampling as needed.
• Adapt to workflow changes and assist in home draws.
• Follow PPE protocols and report low inventory.
• Support ER operations and patient care activities.
