Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Lab Support Tech I to perform phlebotomy procedures and support specimen handling in a busy hospital laboratory. The role includes greeting patients, collecting samples, and ensuring accurate registration and test ordering within hospital systems.

The position requires a high school diploma, valid driver’s license, and fluency in English; phlebotomy experience and ASCP certification are preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Phlebotomy training preferred.
• ASCP certification or eligibility preferred.
• Fluent English communication skills.
• Phlebotomy experience.
• Computer and keyboard proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and determine their needs while directing to appropriate services.
• Perform phlebotomy procedures, including blood cultures, EKGs, breath tests, MRSA and COVID swabbing.
• Collect blood samples using venipuncture techniques for all age groups and follow protocols.
• Receive and label specimens, prioritize STAT/other panels, and transport per protocol.
• Register courier-delivered specimens and troubleshoot printer issues.
• Order tests using hospital information systems and coordinate with departments for clarification.
