Job summary

Boston Medical Center (BMC) seeks a Lab Assistant I (Phlebotomist) to manage daily workflow, train LTAs and students, and monitor specimen collection status. The role collaborates with the Laboratory and other departments to ensure timely phlebotomy services and maintains competency checklists for new staff.

The position requires high school diploma, phlebotomy training, and certifications; experience in phlebotomy and lab operations is preferred. Per diem shifts include weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Graduate of Phlebotomy Training program preferred.
• Phlebotomy Certification Preferred; ASCP certification/eligible within a year.

Responsibilities

• Training of all new LTAs and students; maintain competency checklists.
• Coordinate and monitor LTAs on assigned shifts.
• Distribute work assignments; liaise between Laboratory and other Departments.
• Demonstrate advanced skills in specimen collection and LIS troubleshooting.
• Direct specimens to appropriate departments; handle and use LIS reports.
• Review specimen status hourly to ensure tests are obtained.
