Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a laboratory support staff member to perform routine specimen processing and data entry in a fast-paced hospital setting in Massachusetts. The role involves receiving specimens, logging accession numbers, triaging to the correct workstation, and coordinating with couriers using pneumatic tubes.

You will also process specimens, perform pour-offs, labeling, and outreach specimen registration.

Qualifications

• High School graduate with familiarity in data entry and medical terminology.
• Equivalency combination of education/experience may substitute for the above requirements.

Responsibilities

• Receives, logs, and assigns accession numbers to specimens and requisitions.
• Sorts and triages specimens and requisitions to the appropriate workstation.
• Answers phones and communicates pertinent information; uses pneumatic tube or dumbwaiter for specimen delivery.
• Processes specimens including centrifugation, pour-off, aliquoting, and labeling.
• Registers short form outreach specimens from clients.
