Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is seeking a Lab Support Tech I to perform phlebotomy procedures, specimen collection, and related lab support tasks. The role includes using hospital information systems, registering specimens, and assisting with a variety of lab duties in a fast-paced setting.

Responsibilities include drawing blood, processing samples, assisting with test orders, and providing courteous telephone support to departments and patients.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Phlebotomy training preferred.
• ASCP certification or eligibility preferred.
• Phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Computer and keyboard proficiency required.
• Fluent English communication skills required.

Responsibilities

• Collects blood samples using venipuncture techniques.
• Receives and labels specimens accurately in the computer system.
• Transports specimens promptly and maintains draw station.
• Registers courier-delivered specimens efficiently.
• Orders tests and communicates with departments for clarification.
• Answers and transfers calls; ensures coverage for inlet calls.
