Job summary

UMass Memorial Health is hiring a Phlebotomist to join our Central Massachusetts lab team. The role requires specimen collection, processing, and registration across diverse patients. You will operate hospital information systems and support test ordering while maintaining patient safety and quality standards.

The position offers a 40-hour schedule with mixed shifts, and a potential signing bonus. Applicants should have a high school diploma, phlebotomy training, and beneficial ASCP eligibility.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Phlebotomy training preferred.
• ASCP certification or eligibility preferred.

Responsibilities

• Specimen Collection: collect blood samples via venipuncture across age groups.
• Specimen Receiving and Distribution: label, prioritize and transport specimens per protocol.
• Work Area Organization: keep drawing station clean and stocked with supplies.
• Specimen Registration: register courier-delivered specimens and troubleshoot printers.
• Computer and Test Ordering Support: operate hospital information systems and order tests accurately.
• Telephone Support: answer and transfer calls courteously and ensure coverage.
• Capillary Collection: perform heel sticks and PKU collections.
• Resource Utilization: adapt to workflow changes and provide coverage as needed.
• General Lab Duties: restock supplies, report low inventory, and maintain PPE compliance.
• Emergency Room Support: stock supplies and train nursing staff for timely draws.
• Age-Specific Competency: tailor communication to patient age and development.
