Job summary

The Hanover Insurance Group in Detroit is seeking an Underwriting Director of Strategy for Personal Lines. This executive role drives risk appetite, portfolio strategy, and growth initiatives across products, segments, geographies, and channels.

You will lead cross-functional teams with Actuarial, Finance, and Product to ensure pricing adequacy, capital alignment, and strategic execution. You will craft portfolio KPIs, present options to senior leadership, and coach a team of strategy

Qualifications

• 7+ years of relevant work experience with 3+ years leading cross-functional teams.
• Proven ability to translate portfolio insights into strategic actions.
• Ability to influence senior leaders and collaborate across functions.

Responsibilities

• Define and evolve the Personal Lines risk appetite framework with growth targets.
• Develop portfolio strategy across products, segments, geographies, and channels.
• Lead scenario analysis and stress testing for varying market, weather, and competitive conditions.
• Partner with Actuarial and Finance to align underwriting strategy with financial outcomes.
• Present portfolio health and strategic options to executives and boards.
