Job summary

Core States Group is seeking an experienced Permitting & Regulatory Compliance Specialist II to manage a defined caseload of permitting and compliance projects from application through approval. You will serve as the main liaison between clients, agencies, and internal teams, ensuring timely, accurate submissions and favorable regulatory outcomes.

This role supports a hybrid or remote work arrangement across our North American offices.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 4–6+ years of relevant experience in permitting, compliance, or related fields.
  • Experience in architecture, planning, real estate, engineering, construction, government, or related field.
  • Retail petroleum / UST / air quality permitting experience (strong plus).
  • Demonstrates effective utilization and billable performance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Strong project and time management skills (client-facing).

Responsibilities

  • Own and manage a defined caseload portfolio of permitting and compliance projects from initiation through approval. (e.g., 8–15+ active projects depending on complexity).
  • Serve as the primary liaison between clients, agencies, and internal teams.
  • Prepare, review, and submit complete and accurate permit applications.
  • Analyze and respond to agency comments with clear, technically sound responses and monitor project timelines and ensure all deadlines are met.
  • Identify risks early and implement solutions to keep projects on track.
  • Conduct regulatory analysis and interpret applicable requirements as well as coordinate across disciplines (engineering, design, environmental, etc.).
  • Maintain proactive communication with clients regarding status, risks, and outcomes.
  • Achieve strong client satisfaction (minimal escalations, positive feedback) and build & maintain relationships with regulatory agencies and stakeholders.
  • Delegate defined tasks to Level I staff and provide clear direction as well as review junior staff work for quality and completeness.
  • Contribute to process improvements and documentation of best practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
