Job summary

Dollar General seeks a Perishable Department Lead to oversee produce, meat, dairy, bakery, and related categories. You will support Store Manager with inventory, pricing, and merchandising while ensuring safe operations and compliance with food handling rules. Train staff and maintain stock levels across perishable areas.

Strong organization, cash handling, and reporting skills are valued. Prior retail supervisory experience preferred; high school diploma required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
• One year of experience in a retail environment and six months supervisory experience preferred.
• Previous lead experience and/or grocery store experience preferred.
• Attainment of required local and state food handling certifications, if applicable.

Responsibilities

• Assist Store Manager, as directed, in ensuring the financial integrity of the store through strict cash accountability, key control, and adherence to company security practices and cash control procedures.
• Follow company policies and procedures as outlined in the SOP manual, Employee Handbook, and company communications.
• Maintain correct perishable stock levels based on store volume using provided tools and guides.
• Train assigned associates in proper presentation, freshness, and pricing standards for perishable areas.
• Train associates in proper and safe handling of food in compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
• Record Perishable Markdowns and analyze causes to prevent recurrences.
• Accurately record inventory levels as requested by the Store Support Center.
• Assist Store Manager with ensuring customers' needs and requests are addressed timely.
