Job summary

Dollar General is seeking a Perishable Department Lead to oversee produce, dairy, meat, bakery and related categories. Under Store Manager supervision, you’ll help manage inventory, presentation, and customer service in a fast-paced store environment.

You’ll train associates, ensure food handling safety, and support store operations to maintain profitability and compliance. This role requires strong attention to detail, teamwork, and the ability to balance merchandising with loss prevention.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
• One year of experience in a retail environment and six months supervisory experience preferred.
• Attainment of required local and state food handling certifications, if applicable.

Responsibilities

• Assist Store Manager in ensuring the financial integrity of the store through cash accountability and security practices.
• Maintain correct perishable stock levels using current ads/planners, order guides and related tools.
• Train assigned associates in proper presentation, freshness, and pricing standards for perishable areas.
• Train associates in proper and safe handling of food in compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
• Accurately record inventory levels and assist with stock rotation and markdowns.
• Ensure customers' needs and requests are addressed efficiently and timely.
• Support sanitation and safety standards across Perishable departments.
• Assist with other operational areas as directed by the Store Manager.
