Job summary

Dollar General is seeking a Perishable Department Lead to manage produce, dairy, meats, and bakery areas. You will support the Store Manager with inventory, merchandising, and customer service while ensuring safe, compliant operations.

The role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to train staff on freshness and pricing standards. Prior retail supervisory experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and interpret safety diagrams and procedures.
• Ability to perform basic math calculations including percentages.
• Ability to learn cash register functions and generate reports.
• Ability to review operating statements and identify sales and profitability trends.
• Knowledge of cash handling procedures and deposit control.
• Ability to follow plan-o-gram and merchandising guidance.
• Willingness to obtain required food handling certifications.

Responsibilities

• Assist Store Manager in maintaining financial integrity through cash accountability and security.
• Follow company SOPs, handbooks, and communications.
• Maintain perishable stock levels using daily tools and plans.
• Train associates on freshness, presentation, and pricing standards.
• Train for proper and safe handling of food per rules and regs.
• Record perishable inventory levels and markdowns as needed.
• Ensure customers' needs are addressed promptly and courteously.
• Maintain sanitation and safety in the Perishable departments.
