Job summary

Dollar General seeks an seasoned Perishable Department Lead to manage Produce, Fresh Meat, Packaged Meats, Dairy, Frozen, and Bakery sections. You will optimize inventory, drive appealing merchandising, and uphold safe food handling standards while supporting store leadership.

You will train staff on presentation, pricing, safety, and loss prevention while ensuring efficient scheduling and collaboration with managers. This role emphasizes reliability and customer service excellence.

Qualifications

• Ability to perform basic math calculations.
• Knowledge of cash handling procedures including cashier accountability and deposit control.
• Ability to perform cash register functions.
• Knowledge of cash, facility and safety control policies and practices.
• Effective interpersonal and oral & written communication skills.
• Understanding of safety policies and practices.
• Ability to read and follow plan-o-gram and merchandise presentation guidance.
• Willingness to obtain required certifications in food handling.

Responsibilities

• Maintain correct perishable stock levels based on store volume using templates (ads, planners, order guides).
• Assist in training associates in presentation, freshness and pricing standards for all perishable areas.
• Assist in training associates in safe handling of food in compliance with rules and regulations.
• Assist in scheduling coverage and ensuring adequate staffing.
• Record Perishable Markdowns and analyze causes to prevent recurrences.
• Record inventory levels as requested by Store Support Center and ensure sanitation standards.
• Ensure compliance with Cleaning Schedule and sanitation practices in Perishable departments.
