Job summary

Dollar General is seeking a Perishable Department Lead in Indiana to manage produce, meat, dairy, bakery, and related perishable areas. The role focuses on efficient inventory, appealing presentation, and high-quality customer service.

You will assist the Store Manager with safety, asset protection, and staff training, enforcing food-handling rules and procedures while ensuring excellent customer experiences across the perishables space.

Qualifications

• Read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, and procedures.
• Perform basic math calculations (add/subtract/percentages).
• Learn cash register functions to generate reports.
• Review operating statements and identify business trends (sales, profitability, shrink).
• Know cash handling, cashier accountability, and deposit control.
• Know inventory and merchandising practices.
• Be well organized with attention to detail.
• Have strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
• Understand safety policies and practices.
• Follow plan-o-gram and merchandising guidance.
• Follow company policies and procedures in SOPs and handbooks.
• Be willing to obtain required food handling certifications.

Responsibilities

• Assist Store Manager in ensuring financial integrity through cash accountability and security practices.
• Follow SOPs, Employee Handbook, and company communications.
• Maintain perishable stock levels using store tools the provided systems.
• Train associates in perishable presentation, freshness, and pricing standards.
• Train on proper and safe handling of food in compliance with rules and regulations.
• Record inventory levels as requested by the Store Support Center.
• Address customer needs and requests efficiently and timely.
• Maintain daily contact with customers to understand merchandise expectations.
• Ensure sanitation standards and train associates in Perishable departments.
• Assist with other operational areas as directed by Store Manager.
