Job summary

Dollar General is seeking a dedicated Perishable Department Lead to oversee the perishable areas, ensuring fresh, appealing products and strong customer service. You will assist the Store Manager with inventory management, safekeeping of assets, and adherence to food handling rules in a fast-paced retail environment.

You will train associates in proper stocking, merchandising, and sanitation, while maintaining stock levels and coordinating with vendors to minimize waste and markdowns.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
• One year of experience in a retail environment and six months supervisory experience preferred.
• Attainment of required local and state food handling certifications, if applicable.

Responsibilities

• Assist Store Manager with cash accountability and security practices.
• Maintain correct perishable stock levels using provided order guides and tools.
• Train associates in proper presentation, freshness, and pricing standards for perishables.
• Train staff in safe handling of food and ensure compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
• Record inventory levels and perishable markdowns, analyzing causes and taking corrective action.
