Job summary

Dollar General is seeking a Perishable Department Manager to oversee Produce, Fresh Meat, Packaged Meats, Dairy, Frozen Foods, Bread, and Bakery. You will ensure optimal inventory, appealing merchandise, and strong customer service in a fast-paced store environment.

With supervision from the Store Manager, you will train associates, monitor sanitation and safety, and maintain plan-o-gram compliance to maximize perishable sales while controlling waste and shrink.

Qualifications

• Ability to perform mathematical calculations including totals and percentages.
• Experience with cash handling, cashier accountability, and deposits.
• Ability to operate a cash register.
• Familiarity with cash, facility and safety control policies.
• Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
• Understanding of safety policies and practices.
• Ability to read and follow plan-o-gram and merchandising guidance.
• Ability to obtain required certifications in food handling.
• Two to three years of retail clerk experience; prior lead experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintain correct perishable stock levels based on store volume using provided tools.
• Use current ads, planners, and order guides.
• Prepare perishables orders and manage fresh meat, bakery, and dairy inventories.
• Train associates in presentation, freshness, pricing, and safety standards.
• Assist in scheduling and coverage; support Store Manager.
• Record perishable markdowns and analyze causes to prevent recurrence.
• Record inventory levels and ensure sanitation and perishable area cleanliness.
