Job summary

Dollar General is seeking a dedicated Perishable Department Lead to oversee produce, meats, dairy, bakery, and related items. The role includes working closely with Store Manager to manage inventory, merchandise presentation, and customer service—while ensuring safety and compliance with food-handling rules.

Candidates should have a high school diploma (or equivalent) and experience in retail with some supervisory exposure.

Qualifications

Ability to read and interpret documents including diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals.
Ability to perform basic math computations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.
Ability to learn and operate cash register functions to generate reports.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.

Responsibilities

Assist Store Manager in maintaining financial integrity through cash accountability and security practices.
Follow SOPs, employee handbook, and company communications.
Maintain correct perishable stock levels based on store volume and tools.
Train associates on proper perishable presentation, freshness, and pricing.
Record perishable markdowns and analyze causes to prevent recurrence.
Ensure customers' needs are addressed promptly and courteously.
