Job summary

Carle Health is seeking a Surgical Technician to join the perioperative team as a first, second, or assisting technician or second circulator under RN supervision. The role emphasizes aseptic technique, patient care knowledge, and collaboration with surgeons and the OR team.

Responsibilities include organizing supplies, communicating with nursing staff, documenting data, and preparing patient charts and transportation.

Qualifications

• Independently scrubs basic surgical procedures.
• Applies sterile technique and asepsis.
• Applies knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology for patient care.
• Recognizes basic electronics, chemistry, computers, robotics, and lasers in the perioperative setting.

Responsibilities

• Maintains sterile environment and asepsis.
• Manages supplies and equipment for cost efficiency.
• Coordinates communication with nursing and OR teams.
• Collects data on assigned patients per standards.
• Documents patient data and orders per unit guidelines.
• Schedules tests and treatments and prepares patient charts.
• Prepares patients for transport and activity of daily living.
• Maintains logs of admissions/discharges/transfers in the system.
• Ensures accurate patient charges are recorded.
• Participates in quality improvement and infection control activities.
• Assists with inventory, supply chain, and trays readiness.
• Collaborates with surgeons and OR staff for instrument readiness.
