Job summary

Carle Health is seeking a Surgical Technician to join the perioperative team as a scrub/second circulator under the RN supervision. The role supports asepsis, instrument preparation, and patient care across obstetric and general surgical cases.

Essential duties include maintaining sterile technique, coordinating supplies, and communicating with nursing staff to ensure smooth, efficient operations in the operating room.

Qualifications

• Independently scrubs basic surgical procedures.
• Demonstrates knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, microbiology, and pharmacology for perioperative care.
• Applies principles of sterile technique during procedures.

Responsibilities

• Maintains sterile environment and ensures asepsis.
• Coordinates supplies and equipment for efficiency and cost control.
• Facilitates communication between units and with nursing staff.
• Documents patient data and schedules tests, consultations, and transport.
• Transcribes orders and maintains patient charts as required.
• Assists with room turnover and instrument handling.
• Collaborates with surgeons and OR team to prep trays and supplies.
