Job summary

University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences is seeking a Scheduling Coordinator to support Perioperative Care Services. You will manage procedural schedules, ensure timely preauthorizations, and coordinate with clinical staff to maximize utilization and meet departmental goals.

The role emphasizes customer service, confidentiality, and collaboration with leadership to align staffing and room usage. A healthcare background and strong scheduling experience are required.

Qualifications

• High school graduate, GED, or formal education equivalent plus seven years of training and/or experience in business office administration, customer service, or related work of which three years’ experience is in patient registration, scheduling, or billing in a healthcare environment
• Bachelor's degree plus three years’ experience in patient registration, scheduling, or billing in a healthcare environment.

Responsibilities

• Manage case requests and ensure accuracy and completion of all required preauthorizations and clinical screenings before placing on the schedule.
• Schedulers monitor requested times for alignment with case time averaging and scheduling policies/procedures.
• Collaborates with procedural area leadership to determine appropriate placement and alignment with staffing and targeted rooms in operation at specified times.
• Schedulers are integral players in ensuring all capacity, access, and utilization targets are met, resulting in achievement of budgetary/revenue expectations.
• Schedulers will be assigned primary specialties and services they support, while remaining able to meet needs for any service/specialty/department. High level of skill and understanding of Epic Optime required.
• Acts as the point of contact for procedural scheduling for all UAMS departments/clinics staff and providers.
• Must interact in a professional and friendly manner, exhibiting stellar communication and problem-solving skills.
• Focused on the end result of meeting the needs of patients in an efficient and effective manner while ensuring the schedule is appropriately managed.
• Communicates accurate and complete information; maintains strict confidentiality when necessary. Demonstrates positive working relationships with co-workers, management team, and ancillary departments;
• Follows the Core Concepts of Patient and Family Centered Care and the Basic Code of Conduct Guidelines.
• Assists internal and external stakeholders as needed with exceptional customer service.
• May perform other duties as assigned.
