Job summary

St. David’s Medical Center in Austin, TX is seeking a Registered Nurse in the Operating Room. The role emphasizes patient-centered perioperative care, collaboration with an interdisciplinary team, and leadership to improve nursing practice and patient safety.

The position follows a Monday–Friday schedule with early hours and on-call during some non-business hours. A strong commitment to continuous improvement and nursing excellence is required.

Qualifications

• RN licensure with active state certification.
• Associate degree required; BSN preferred.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support within 30 days of start date.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients prior to surgery.
• Provide education to patient and family about procedures and peri-operative process.
• Prepare patient including IV therapy, preoperative meds, and surgical site verification.
• Participate in site verification, time out, debriefing per hospital policy.
• Recognize and respond to patient emergencies.
• Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care with evidence-based practice.
• Collaborate with providers, surgeons, techs and other staff as an integral team member.
• Apply nursing process, critical thinking, and leadership to care delivery.
• Monitor patient condition and document changes and care provided.
• Educate patients and families about condition, treatment and follow-up.
