Shriners Children's – Spokane is seeking an Operating Room/PACU RN to join the perioperative team. The RN provides care in OR and Phase I PACU, supporting surgeons and anesthesiologists during intraoperative care.

BSN preferred or in progress; WA RN license with BLS and PALS within 3 months of hire. AORN certification is a plus. No weekends, no nights, minimal call.

Qualifications

  • BSN preferred or in process to receive BSN within five years from hire date.
  • RN in WA with active license.
  • BLS required within 3 months of hire; PALS within 3 months; AORN certification a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care in OR and Phase I PACU for pediatric patients.
  • Support surgeons and anesthesiologists during intraoperative care.
  • Maintain asepsis and infection control per AORN guidelines.
  • Perform assessments, IV starts, airway management, and documentation.
  • Engage with families to support family-centered care and education.

This position provides care in both the OR and PACU Phase I of a patients’ surgical experience. The RN will function within the team by providing professional nursing care to patients whose protective reflexes or self-care abilities are potentially compromised during and/or immediately after surgical or other invasive procedures. Provides support to Surgeon and the Anesthesiologist as needed during the intraoperative process. Utilizes clinical knowledge, critical thinking, and the nursing process to provide care to patients in the operating room and/or PACU. Uses the principles and guidelines of the AORN to ensure asepsis and infection control. The RN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on committees or projects.*No Weekends, No Nights, Minimal call*Key Responsibilities:Provides nursing care to our pediatric patients in all of the perioperative areas, including the Operating Room, and Phase I Recovery Room.Performs professional nursing services for patients with a variety of needs utilizing the nursing process and within the scope, ethics and standards of practice of the American Nurses Association.Supports the family centered care philosophy of Shriners Children's.Performs assessments, interventions, circulating, IV starts, airway management, aseptic technique, technical equipment handling and troubleshooting, and various other high acuity skills designed to keep the patients safe before, during, and immediately after surgery.Collects and analyzes assessment data to determine diagnosis/issues. Assesses comprehensive data including but not limited to physical, psychosocial, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual needs and interprets assessment information to derive the diagnosis or issues as defined by the patient’s condition.Identifies expected outcomes and develops a plan that prescribes strategies which address health promotion and restoration, health maintenance, or health related problems or issues and alternatives to attain expected outcomes Involves patient, family and healthcare team members in formulating a culturally appropriate individualized plan of care and identifies expected outcomes based on nursing assessment and diagnosis.Implements the identified plan and coordinates care delivery.Employs strategies to promote health and a safe environment.Evaluates progress toward attainment of outcomes.Applies the principles of professional codes of ethics that ensure individual rights in all areas of practice.Integrates evidence and research findings into practice.Demonstrates leadership behaviors in practice settings, across the profession, and in thecommunity.Required Qualifications:BSN preferred or signed BSN education agreement to actively be in process to receive BSN within five years from the initial date of hire.RN in WABasic Life Support (BLS) required with 3 months of hirePALS required with 3 months of hireAORN certification a plusPreferred Qualifications:Procedural and/or Acute care experiencePediatrics, orthopedic experienceThe pay range for this position is $41.04-$70.35/hourlyCompensation is determined based on years of relevant experience and departmental equity.
