Job summary

Shriners Children's - Spokane is seeking an Operating Room/PACU RN to join the Perioperative team. This RN provides professional nursing care in the OR and PACU Phase I, supporting surgeons and anesthesiologists during intraoperative care.

BSN preferred or in-process to obtain within five years; WA RN license with BLS and PALS within 3 months; AORN certification a plus. No weekends or nights; compensation range is $41.04-$70.35/hour.

  • RN in WA, BLS required with 3 months of hire; PALS required with 3 months of hire; AORN certification a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Provides nursing care to pediatric patients in perioperative areas including OR and Phase I PACU.
  • Supports surgeon and anesthesiologist during intraoperative process and ensures asepsis.
  • Performs assessments, interventions, IV starts, airway management and post-operative care.
  • Maintains infection control per AORN guidelines and promotes patient safety.

Job Description

Shriners Children's - Spokane is seeking an Operating Room/PACU RN to join the Perioperative team. This position provides care in both the OR and PACU Phase I of a patients' surgical experience. The RN will function within the team by providing professional nursing care to patients whose protective reflexes or self-care abilities are potentially compromised during and/or immediately after surgical or other invasive procedures. Provides support to Surgeon and the Anesthesiologist as needed during the intraoperative process. Utilizes clinical knowledge, critical thinking, and the nursing process to provide care to patients in the operating room and/or PACU. Uses the principles and guidelines of the AORN to ensure asepsis and infection control. The RN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on committees or projects.

Key Responsibilities

Provides nursing care to our pediatric patients in all of the perioperative areas, including the Operating Room, and Phase I Recovery Room. Performs professional nursing services for patients with a variety of needs utilizing the nursing process and within the scope, ethics and standards of practice of the American Nurses Association. Supports the family centered care philosophy of Shriners Children's. Performs assessments, interventions, circulating, IV starts, airway management, aseptic technique, technical equipment handling and troubleshooting, and various other high acuity skills designed to keep the patients safe before, during, and immediately after surgery. Collects and analyzes assessment data to determine diagnosis/issues. Assesses comprehensive data including but not limited to physical, psychosocial, emotional, cognitive, and spiritual needs and interprets assessment information to derive the diagnosis or issues as defined by the patient's condition. Identifies expected outcomes and develops a plan that prescribes strategies which address health promotion and restoration, health maintenance, or health related problems or issues and alternatives to attain expected outcomes Involves patient, family and healthcare team members in formulating a culturally appropriate individualized plan of care and identifies expected outcomes based on nursing assessment and diagnosis. Implements the identified plan and coordinates care delivery. Employs strategies to promote health and a safe environment. Evaluates progress toward attainment of outcomes. Applies the principles of professional codes of ethics that ensure individual rights in all areas of practice. Integrates evidence and research findings into practice. Demonstrates leadership behaviors in practice settings, across the profession, and in the community.

Required Qualifications

BSN preferred or signed BSN education agreement to actively be in process to receive BSN within five years from the initial date of hire. RN in WA Basic Life Support (BLS) required with 3 months of hire PALS required with 3 months of hire AORN certification a plus Procedural and/or Acute care experience Pediatrics, orthopedic experience

Compensation

The pay range for this position is $41.04-$70.35/hourly Compensation is determined based on years of relevant experience and departmental equity.
