Job summary

Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital, Inc. seeks a Phlebotomy Technician to obtain blood specimens from patients per procedures, maintaining a professional, patient-centered atmosphere.

Responsibilities include front-end specimen handling, pre- analytical processing, labeling, centrifuging, and delivering samples to the lab while cooperating with hospital staff and external clients. Experience in a hospital laboratory is preferred; HS diploma required; PT(ASCP) preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
• Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No
• Phlebotomy Technician (PT) [PBT(ASCP)] - American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) preferred

Responsibilities

• Verifies that correct specimen and labeling requirements are met for test orders.
• Correctly and accurately registers and labels tubes as appropriate.
• Centrifuges and aliquots specimens according to department policy.
• Sorts, stores, and delivers laboratory specimens by department and specimen requirements, as appropriate.
• Works with medical technologists and client services to resolve specimen problems.
• Answers telephones and provides assistance as needed.
